NEBIS.AI / PLATFORM / ENGAGEMENT QUALITY REVIEW

Engagement quality review, built into the file.

Whether an EQR is required, who may perform it, what they review and when the report can be signed, all on the engagement. The engagement quality reviewer is always a person.

What it does

Engagement quality review, item by item.

/ 01

Required when your criteria say so

Engagements your firm's policies require an EQR for are set automatically. Where the file shows another trigger, the engagement partner must decide, and the decision is recorded with their name and date.

/ 02

Nominated, then appointed

The engagement partner nominates a reviewer with a reason and a relationship declaration. Another partner appoints, rejects or appoints someone else. Neither the engagement partner nor the nominee confirms the appointment.

/ 03

Eligibility checked

A reviewer who is the engagement partner, is on the engagement team, or was the engagement partner on the client's audit in either of the two previous periods is refused. A reciprocal review is flagged for the reviewer to address.

/ 04

What the reviewer sees

The reviewer has read-only access to the file, the significant matters and judgements register, and their own EQR notes in the review threads.

/ 05

The report waits for the review

Where an EQR is required, the auditor's report cannot be signed until it is complete. While the engagement partner's EQR decision is outstanding, the report cannot be signed or dated.

/ 06

On the record

The requirement, the appointment, the eligibility conclusion, the review and its completion are kept with the engagement and go into the archive.

How it runs

From requirement to completed review.

Decide

The requirement is worked out from your firm's criteria and the file, and re-checked as the file changes, so a late modified opinion raises it then.

Appoint

The engagement partner nominates, another partner appoints, and the eligibility checks and declarations are recorded.

Review and complete

The reviewer reviews the significant judgements and the papers behind them, raises EQR notes, and completes the review before the report is signed.

The EQR is a person, every time.

Questions

What firms ask about it.

Who can be an engagement quality reviewer under SSQM 2? +
SSQM 2 requires the engagement quality reviewer to have the competence, capabilities, time and authority to perform the review, to comply with the ethical requirements, including on threats to objectivity and independence, and not to be a member of the engagement team. A former engagement partner must observe a cooling-off period before acting as reviewer on the same client. In Nebis the reviewer must also be a partner of the firm.
When is an engagement quality review required? +
SSQM 1 requires an EQR for audits of listed entities, where a law or regulation requires one, and for other engagements where the firm determines it is an appropriate response to quality risks. The module applies your firm's criteria and asks the engagement partner to decide where the file shows another trigger.
Can the AI perform the engagement quality review? +
No. The engagement quality reviewer is always a person. The module manages the requirement, the appointment and the record, and gives the reviewer the papers to review.
Can the auditor's report be signed before the EQR is complete? +
Not where an EQR is required. The report cannot be signed until the review is complete.
