NEBIS.AI / PLATFORM / JOURNAL ENTRY TESTING

Journal entry testing you can re-perform.

The test for management override of controls, prepared from the client's general ledger. Every journal is screened against stated criteria, and every selection shows the criterion and the amount that selected it. No opaque risk score.

What it does

Journal entry testing, item by item.

/ 01

Completeness first

Opening balances plus the year's journals must equal the closing trial balance, account by account, and every journal must balance. Any difference holds the paper open, so the section cannot be concluded until it is resolved.

/ 02

Selection by criteria

Each journal is screened against the criteria in SSA 240 and your firm's own, such as entries after the year end, unusual users or times, suspense and seldom-used accounts, and related-party accounts.

/ 03

Fraud indicators at any amount

Indicators of fraud select a journal whatever its size. Every other criterion selects from one amount floor, the clearly trivial threshold by default, which a manager or partner may raise with a reason.

/ 04

Source never guessed

Where the ledger export has no source column, entries are shown as having no source and screened as manual. The source is never inferred.

/ 05

Estimates and unusual transactions

The paper also covers the review of accounting estimates for bias, the retrospective review, and significant transactions outside the normal course of business.

/ 06

The ledger stays in code

Completeness, screening and selection are done by code, not by an AI model. The general ledger is not sent to the model.

How it runs

From ledger export to reviewed paper.

Import the ledger

The client's general ledger export is imported in whatever layout it comes in, with the date it was run. Completeness is checked against the trial balance in force.

Screen and select

Every journal is screened. Selected entries are listed with each criterion that applies and its amount, so a reviewer can see why each was chosen.

Test and review

Each selected entry is tested against its support, and the paper is drafted for your reviewer to challenge, change and sign off.

Transparent selection, not a black-box score.

Questions

What firms ask about it.

How do you do journal entry testing under SSA 240? +
Confirm the journal population is complete by agreeing the ledger to the trial balance, screen every journal against criteria that indicate a risk of management override, select the entries those criteria flag, and test each selected entry against its support. SSA 240 also requires reviewing accounting estimates for bias and evaluating significant unusual transactions.
What amount floor applies? +
Fraud indicators select at any amount. Every other criterion selects from one floor, by default the clearly trivial threshold on the file. A manager or partner may raise it, with the reason recorded.
Is the general ledger sent to an AI model? +
No. Completeness, screening and selection run in code. The model drafts the documentation from the results.
What if the client's export has no source column? +
Each such entry is shown as having no source in the ledger export and screened as a manual journal. The source is never inferred.
